On February 9, 2021, the first webinar of the “Industrial Transition Meetings” series took place. These digital meetings, scheduled every two months, cover many topics such as sectoral industry analysis, insights on decarbonization technologies, monitoring of national and European regulations and their impact on industry, the involvement of financers in the industrial transition, the consequences on employment, etc. These regular meetings are also an opportunity to discuss what ADEME new findings on the industriel sector and get feedback on the Sectoral Transition Plans developed through the Finance ClimAct project.

The first webinar of 2021 brought together over 250 participants from various backgrounds. Industrial actors and their federations, public authorities and local communities representatives, consulting and financing entities attended the presentations led by:

  • Oliver Sartor, Senior Advisor at Agora Energiewende and expert on industrial and European policy issues. He provided an update on actions taken by the European Union to foster industrial decarbonization.
  • Aïcha El Khamlichi, expert on the subject of carbon capture at ADEME, and editor of the ADEME Opinion on the subject.

This first digital meeting received a positive feedback. It will be followed by an event organized in April and specifically focusing on the final restitution of the Cement Sector Transition Plan. In May, the subject of hydrogen in the industry, will be addressed with a focus on the steel industry.

A specific webinar on the financing of industrial transition, the challenges and the tools available, will be held next fall.
